Georgian Lovebirds

Research has revealed the name of this Depression Glass pattern to be
Georgian Lovebirds.

It was made by the  Federal Glass Company from 1931 to 1936, so it was one of the earlier depression patterns.

The design is wonderful, with alternating birds and baskets around the edge, connected by swags, and with a medallion in the center.

This glass was mold-etched. That means the mold was etched with the design and the glass was then pressed. The design is recessed on the mold so the pattern is raised on the surface of the glass. They could achieve this intricate pattern without the expense and hand labor of individuallly etched pieces.


Federal made another pattern with birds, called Parrot. And Gram had one piece of that pattern that is a squared serving plate. And the beautiful green color is the same in both patterns.
Each piece has its own variety of small bubbles and strawmarks.


I've been using these dishes every day since Stacey discovered them deep inside an 'old' attic.
Thinking of the members of my family that used them back in 'the Depression'.
They are part of our family history.
